Mr. Gregory L. Smith

Statesboro, Georgia Gregory Lamont Smith, 60, entered rest on October 1, 2025, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Born May 5, 1965, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he graduated from Hillside High School in 1983. Gregory served in the U.S. Army and later in the Army National Guard until retirement. After retiring from the U.S. Post Office, he moved to Statesboro and worked at Southeast Detention Center in Claxton, and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office for ten years. He was a member of New Covenant Church. In addition to other family members, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alphonso and Ollie Mae Wilkerson of Claxton, GA and Edna Mae Smith, Statesboro, GA, aunts, Pinkie Jacobs, New Jersey, and Ruth Jones, Claxton, an uncle, Rodney Wilkerson, cousins, Toney Jones, Dondi Blocker, and Darius Wilkerson. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Minnie Smith, Statesboro, GA and John Wesley and Carolyn Milton-Smith, Statesboro, GA; a son, Da’Ron Copland, New Jersey; his siblings, Erika Smith-Lanier, Statesboro, GA Gail (John Wesley) Driggers, North Carolina, Jessica Kirkland, Atlanta, GA, uncles, Eugene (Louise) Wilkerson, Willie Gene Wilkerson, (Grace, deceased); an aunt, Dee Wilkerson, Atlanta, GA, special cousins, Paul Gilliam, Statesboro, Davon (David) Jones, Florida, Melissa Jones, GA, Trina (Otis) Wilkerson-Glover, and Torie (Corrie) Wilkerson, both of California, and Michael James, Claxton, GA nephews and nieces, Aaron Marquis (Naima) Smith, Statesboro, GA, Gino Devin (Joya) Pharms, Joshua Emmanuel Davis, and Caleb Alou Lanier, all of Statesboro, GA, Alexis and JD Kirkland, both of Atlanta, GA, Tia Moore, Boston, MA, his best friend, Marcus Bagley, Augusta, GA, a special friend, Dorian Odom, Statesboro, GA, his beloved pets, Skipper, Moses, and Smokie, host of other relatives and friends. A viewing for Mr. Smith will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M., at the funeral home. The funeral service for Mr. Gregory L. Smith will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, October 18, 29025, at the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc. Burial will follow in the Historic Mt.
