“I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto Me, and rest; Lay down, thou weary one, lay down Thy head upon my breast.” I came to Jesus as I was, Weary, and worn, and sad; I found in Him a resting-place, and He has made me glad.” On Friday morning May 1, 2020, Mother Jessie Simpkins passed from this earthly life at her residence in Statesboro, Georgia. She was born in Denmark, South Carolina to the late Richard and Julia Washington. At an early age she relocated to New York City where she was educated in the public school system of New York City. Mother Jessie Simpkins worked as a Social Worker and earned a certificate for completing training for Homemaker and Personal Care Services. She also gained certificates in Volunteer Services at the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, Incentive Award from The Continuing Education of LaGuardia Community College of New York and received many honors and recognitions for the work she has done. In 2004 she relocated to Statesboro, Georgia. She worked with habitat for Humanity and was a faithful member of the Church of God Bibleway of the Apostolic Faith. She served as local president of the Women Working Willingly for Christ, Women Auxiliary, served as one of the praying mothers on both the local and district level. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Willie “Billie” Coleman and a grandson she loved dearly, Kaimel “KK” Simpkins, brothers, Sonny Washington and Richard Washington.. A public viewing for Mother Simpkins will be held Friday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Be advised that social distancing practices will be enforced. Due to COVID-19 crisis, services for Mother Simpkins will held privately on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
