Mother Elouise Kent Gordon

Sylvania, Georgia Mrs. Elouise Kent Gordon passed into eternal rest, Saturday, April 28, 2012 at her residence under the compassionate care of Hospice Advantage. The native of Screven County received her public education at the Horse Creek School. In the year of 1946 she and her husband moved to the Pennsylvania area. Known to many as Mother Gordon, she touched many lives with her wisdom, style, guidance and grace. Mother Gordon was a former volunteer of the Catholic Church of Philadelphia as a Teachers Aid, where she was later certified by the Arch Dioceses of Philadelphia. She later became an employee of Our Lady of Transfiguration and assisted her husband at Gordon’s Auto Body, there family owned business. In May 1991 her and her husband relocated back to Sylvania, Georgia. Mother Gordon was a member of the St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health diminished. She served as a Deaconess and devoted Missionary Board Member. Those left to cherished memories are, her husband of more than sixty five years, Bennie Hart Gordon, Sylvania, GA., Margaret (Hadi) Davis of Franconia PA., Carolyn Gordon of Philadelphia, PA., Joyce (Robert) Graves of Cortland VA., Calvin (Constance) Gordon of Newark, DE., Elisha Kent (Sylvia) Gordon of Levittown, PA., Stephanie (Steffen) Knight of Blue Bell, PA., Pearl (Nathan) Green of Aiken, SC., Arnett Gordon of Philadelphia, PA., Maurice (Sharon) Gordon of Willingboro, NJ., Eric (Sherri) Gordon of Philadelphia, PA., and Tina Brookins of Sylvania, GA., a daughter- in-law, Queen Gordon of Florence SC., a special long life friend Etwillmae King of Guyton GA. Additionally Elouise departure leaves behind fifty (50) grandchildren, fifty-eight (58) great-grandchildren, and fourteen (14) great-great grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, Pearl Burns of Statesboro GA., Hollistein Rollington of Savannah GA., Milkie Burns of Alaska, Robbie Lou Gordon of Sylvania GA., Elisha and Anna Gordon of Sylvania GA., Hollis C. and Annabell Gordon of Philadelphia PA., a host of nieces, nephews, devoted church family and friends. The Gordon family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc. The Home Going Celebration Services for Mother Gordon will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Statesboro Mission Outreach Ministries, Inc. located 20597 US Highway 301 N Statesboro, GA 30461,the Bishop Virgil Badie, Pastor and the Rev. Timotheous Mincey, eulogist. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Mother Gordon will lie in state on the day of service one hour prior to the funeral services.
