Statesboro, Georgia Mr. David Knight, Jr. passed into rest, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Bulloch County native was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late David and Lillie Mae Smith Knight, Sr. and was educated in the public school system of Chatham County. Mr. Knight served his county in the United States Army in which he received an honorable discharge in April of 1964 upon his retirement. Later he moved to Statesboro Georgia in 1966. David Knight was a former employee of Merritt and Merritt Law Firm. Mr. Knight became a member of the Original First African Baptist Church in 1973 where he presently served of the board of deacons and sung in the male chorus He leaves his memories to be cherished by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Knight, Statesboro, GA., a son Mr. David Knight, III., Tacoma, WA., a sister, Mrs. Viola Vaughn, Decatur, GA., a brother Attorney Lorenzo (Luckey) Merritt, Statesboro, GA., a niece, Mrs. Edwina (Andrew) Floyd, Decatur, GA., nephews, Mr. Diondre and Mr. DeDaughn Wynn, both of Decatur, GA., a special cousin, Mrs. Lois Dention, Pooler, GA., a host of loving step children, adoptive children, Mr. Maurice Hill and Pastors Frankie and Jean Owens, adoptive nieces and nephews, Robin Barnes, Rey Barnes Blankumsee, the children of Attorney and Mrs. Lorenzo Merritt; a host of supportive friends, Deacon Larry (Evangelist Juanita) Allen, Sgt. Roy Whitfield and family, Captain John Staten and family, Mr. Elliott Boney, Mr. Ramey Barber, the family of the Original First African Baptist Church and the staff of Merritt and Merritt Law Firm, a host of cousins and many friends. Mr. Knight will lie in state on Friday morning from 9 am until the funeral hour for viewing. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. All viewing will be at the church. The funeral service for Mr. Knight will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Original First African Baptist Church, 545 Westside Road, Rev. Frankie L. Owens, pastor. Burial will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville, Georgia with military honors.
