Deacon Alex Washington Jr.

Statesboro, GA. Mr. Alexander Washington, Jr., 79 passed April 24, 2018 at his residence. The Bulloch County native was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander, Sr. and Estella Nunnally Washington. Mr. Alexander Washington Jr. better known as “Bill” was educated in the Bulloch County School System and graduated of the William James High School Class of 1957. He, later, enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1965 – 1968. “Bill’s” career training for carpentry was gained from the teachings of the late Mr. Nelson Sabb. Early, he united with Saint Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church; he diligently worked until his transition in many capacities which included Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, Church Treasurer, the Deacon’s Ministry, Board of Trustees, Building Exploratory Committee, Senior Finance Committee and Senior Choir Ministry. Mr. Alexander “Bill” Washington, Jr. married Eddie Lee Dunbar, his wife of 48 years until her 2016 demise. Survivors include his children, Estella Roberson (Carlton), Brooklet, GA, Timothy Washington (Senora), Orlando, FL, Rhenetri Washington, Rheneta Ward, Beatrice Dunbar Thomas, and Valarie Cone (Walter), all of Statesboro, GA, Charles Dunbar, Covington, GA and Toney Washington (Shannon), McDonough, GA; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin Washington (Patricia), Boiling Springs, SC; sister, Livian Belcher, Miami, FL; brother-in-law, Maurice Jackson (Kimberly), Statesboro, GA; faithful friend, Hinton Ward; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, honorary granddaughter, Ahriss Meriweather and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Family Visitation will be held Friday evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc. Mr. Washington will lie in state on the day of service one hour prior to the funeral. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. The funeral service for Mr. Alex Washington, Jr. will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Saint Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church with the Elder Donald Chavers, Jr. presiding and the pastor, Rev. Timotheus Mincey, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
