Mrs. Petronia Canty Hunter

Statesboro, Georgia "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away”. Revelation 21:4 Petronia Canty Hunter was born November 9, 1950, in Bulloch County, Georgia, to the late Reverend James and Annie Mae Carr Canty. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir. Petronia received her formal education in the Bulloch County School System and graduated from William James High School. She was employed for many years as a custodian at Georgia Southern College. Petronia faithfully drove the church van until her health failed. Through this ministry, she brought many young people to Christ. On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Petronia Canty Hunter entered into rest at the Candler County Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend James and Annie Mae Canty; her husband, John Willie Hunter; and her siblings, Carl Canty, David Canty, and Judy McBride. Petronia leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Craig Maurice Grant of Statesboro, GA, and Charles Kollock of Atlanta, GA; five brothers: Willie (Jackie) Canty of Albany, GA, Jimmy Canty and Alfred Canty, both of Statesboro, GA, Derwin (Tracy) Canty of Albany, GA, and Rev. James (Cynthia) Canty of Statesboro, GA; three sisters: Barbara Canty Natson of Statesboro, GA, Emma Canty of Atlanta, GA, and Sharon Canty of Statesboro, GA; a close friend, Joseph Prigen of Pembroke, GA; a granddaughter, Brittany Lanier, a great grandson, Konner Ivey, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. A walk-through viewing for Mrs. Hunter, will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.m. at Hill's Mortuary, Inc. Mrs. Hunter will lie in repose at the church on the day of service, from 9 A.M. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. The funeral service for Mrs. Petronia Canty Hunter, will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Elm Street Church of God, the Rev. Alexander Smith, Jr., Pastor, the Rev. James Thomas, Presiding and the Rev. James C. Canty as eulogist. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
