Mother Pecola Byrd Boles

Statesboro, Georgia Mother Pecola Byrd Boles was born on August 13, 1929, in Manassas, Georgia, to the late John Byrd and Mattie Braziel Byrd. On April 21, 2026, she peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and strength. She was united in marriage to the late Robert Lee Boles, Sr., and was a devoted mother. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Boles, Jr. (“Brother”). She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Bettye (William) Stewart and Alvin Boles, both of Statesboro, Georgia, and Carolyn Boles of Conyers, Georgia, and her daughter-in-love, Mary (Jake) Gonder of Sandersville, Georgia. She is also survived by her sisters Mattie Pearl Sudler, Corrine Williams, and Annie Lee Wilson; sisters-in-law Annie Clark, Mary Boles, and Sylvia Boles; grandchildren Grayson Wallace V (Shatika Fair), Nikki Griffin, Bettina Johnson (Jeremy Hulsey), Aljavon (Candace) Boles, and Israel Johnson; and great-grandchildren Taylin Griffin, Corrie Jamal Griffin, Jaxon Griffin, Grayson Wallace VI, and Samyah Wallace. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will forever cherish her presence and memory. Pecola was a fantastic cook, gifted seamstress, and caregiver who worked at Julia P. Bryant School and as a daycare provider. Her hands created beautiful quilts and clothing for her family, and her home was always filled with warmth and love. She was a faithful member of Parrish Grove Missionary Baptist Church and loved the Lord God with all her heart and soul. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a praying woman who never ceased lifting others up before God. Pecola was also a talented singer and founding member of the Community Gospel Singers, sharing the joy of Jesus through song wherever she went. She loved to travel, laugh, and was known as the undisputed top-ranked checkers champion of the family. Smart, quick-witted, beautiful, and wise, she was the heart of her family—a devoted wife, loving mother, and guiding light to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every prayer she prayed, every song she sang, and every act of love she gave. The Boles family will receive visitors, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.m., on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc. The funeral service for Mother Pecola Byrd Boles, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the Parrish Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Wiggins, officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
