Monica McCurdy

Monica “Stanky” McCurdy, 62, of Bronx NY, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021 at Montefiore Hospital. Monica was born in Taccoa Georgia, on December 4, 1958 to Joan Crawford McCurdy and the late Tyrone Russell “Butch” McCurdy. She attended Tilden High School, in Brooklyn NY and went on to receive her Masters in Social Work from Adelphi University in 2019. Monica was married to Felisha Simmons on October 26, 2012; they were married for 8 years. Throughout her life Monica touched many people through her field of Human Service. She dedicated her life to helping those in need. She enjoyed carrying the message that “an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live”; like she did. Monica enjoyed living, love and laugh. Monica did possess a strong personality and was a natural born leader; many were attracted to her because of her charisma. In those early years she was considered to be a girly girl, she was into singing, dancing and proper etiquette. She may have been small, but she never backed down from a fight, no matter how big the opponent. She liked to travel and she enjoyed learning; she was a philomath. Monica was the ultimate educator, encouraging all those around her to continue their education and to go as far as they could possibly go. She had a flair for research and field work. Monica was not only dedicated to the people she serviced but to her family and the organization of NA. Monica is survived by her wife, Felisha Simmons of Brooklyn, NY; mother Joan Crawford of Statesboro, GA; son Stephen Brockett and her daughter in law Crystal Brockett of Statesboro, GA ; 2 brothers, Anthony Scott of Lawrenceville, GA and Keith Bliey and his wife Karisma Bliey of Statesboro, GA; 2 sisters, Prem Benson of Toccoa, GA and Marline Willis of Royston, GA; 4 grandchildren, Laniya Bacon, Jada Brockett, Joshua Jeremiah Brockett and Mi’Asia Brockett of Statesboro, GA; goddaughter Joelle of Brooklyn,NY; 4 aunts, Montina McCurdy, Harriett Smith, Caroline Crawford of Toccoa, GA and Helen Smith of Augusta, GA; 2 uncles, Bobby Crawford and Ralph McCurdy of Toccoa, GA; Lavona Billups of Statesboro, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A celebration of Life Service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc. Final rites have been entrusted Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
