Mrs. Marvenia Griffin Campbell

Sylvania, Georgia Mrs. Marvenia Griffin Campbell age 78, passed into eternal rest, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Optim Medical Center. The Screven County native received her formal education in the public school system of Screven County and was the daughter of the late Johnny and Frankie Mae Bates Ingram. She was a member of the Lewis Chapel C.M.E Church where she served as a church Stewardess and President of the Missionary Board until her health failed. Mrs. Campbell retired as the Center Director for 34 years of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) Community Service Agency, she served as a community activist to help people gain employment, secured housing for senior citizens, wrote grants for seniors to have their homes renovated, served as youth coordinator, assisted citizens with securing emergency rental assistance, and she continually served as a guiding force for the community while serving on planning groups, local campaigns, and advocating for preservation and development in underserved neighborhoods. Mrs. Marvenia Campbell also worked with local governments and represented the Department of Community Affairs on behalf of the Equal Opportunity Agency (EOA) to lead the initiative to secure the present location of the Neighborhood Service/Senior Center in Sylvania, Georgia. As a result her dedication, she received numerous civic and political awards and traveled extensively throughout the United States. Additionally, she served as a member of the Inter Agency Council, Elderly Abuse Council, and the NAACP to better the lives of the citizens of Sylvania, GA. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Rev. Patricia James, Rose Mary Ingram, Fairy B. Moody, Roxanne Bush, Charles Flournoy and Lewis Ingram. She leaves a legacy of love to be remembered by, her children, Harold Griffin and Sandra P. (Freddie) Griffin both Sylvania, GA., Timothy W. (Connie) Griffin, Rincon, GA., Henry Frank Griffin, Gloria (Jimmy) Anderson, and Cathy Griffin, all of Sylvania, GA., brothers, Johnny (Frances) Ingram and Lafonza (Lillie) Ingram, both of Sylvania, GA., extended siblings, JoAnn (Thaddeus) Scurry , Waynesboro, GA., Viola (Bernard) Cryer, Jarod, GA., Willie James Walker, Augusta, GA., Ronnie Hopkins, Jarod, GA., Mary Ruth (Herbert) Hicks, St. Petersburgh, FLA., and Betty Hill, Florida; 3 Aunts, Josie Stewart, Farrie Bell Royal and Louvenia Oliver all of Sylvania, GA., a special sister, Elizabeth Ingram, special extended family, Vivian Griffin, Sebastian Hunter, Cynthia Leeks, Remell Carter, and Fess Bargeron, Jr; grandchildren which she reared, Dr. Jacqueline Stephens, Bishop Timothy Griffin, II., Minister Christopher Griffin; 28 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Home Going Services for Mrs. Campbell will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. July 23, 2016 at the City of Victory Church (SOP) 126 DevDhara Dr, Sylvania, GA 30467 with the Bishop Timothy Griffin, II officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Memorial Park Cemetery. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
