Mr. Joe Parrish

STATESBORO, GA Mr. Joe Parrish, age 84, passed into eternal rest on Monday, November 10, 2014, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. He was educated in the Bulloch County Public Schools. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army, was a retired farmer and worked for Rogers Bridge Company for over twenty years. In May of 1953 he married the late Etta Mae Rich and to this union eight children were born. In addition to his wife; four children preceded him in death: Mary Louise Parrish. Joseph Parrish, Emma Jean Ellis and Betty Sue Tiller; siblings Elleroe, Raymond, Mattie, Retta Mae, Samuel “Hamp,”and Myrtice preceded him in death. His memories will be cherished by his four sons Charles and David Parrish of Portal, Larry Parrish of Savannah and Thomas Parrish; special grandson and caretaker Mathis McPherson of Statesboro; thirteen other grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers Albert Parrish of Statesboro and Freddie Parrish of Brooklet; four sisters Ola Raymond (LaVaughn) of Pooler, Ella Littles of Statesboro, Gloria Norton of Bloomingdale and Audrey Kiernan (Gerald) of Savannah; brothers-in-law James Walter Rich (Selma)Jamaica, NY, Robert Rich of Statesboro; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Underwood of Englewood, OH, Emmie Lou Rich, Leomie Rich, Armetta Rich and Ruth Rich all of Statesboro; Ella Lane special friend and caretaker; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014 in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc., 58 Packinghouse Road, Statesboro, GA 30458. The funeral service for Mr. Parrish will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014 in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc., 58 Packinghouse Road, Statesboro, GA 30458, with Elder Donald Chavers, Jr., officiating. burial will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, 98 Harmony Church Road, Statesboro, GA 30458 with military honors.
