Ms. Getrude Brown

Statesboro, Georgia Gertrude Brown, 84, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away at her home on July 13, 2026, surrounded by her children and son-in-law after an extended illness. She was born on June 20, 1942, in Bulloch County, Georgia, to the late Lonnie Brown Sr. and Gertrude McCollum Brown, who both preceded her in death. At an early age, she moved to Asbury Park, New Jersey, where she lived with her parents, Lonnie Brown Sr. and Gertrude Brown. She later returned to Statesboro, Georgia. She graduated from William James High School with the Class of 1962. Gertrude worked for many years at Brooks Instrument, Black Stone, also known as ITT Grinnell and Tyco. She also worked in home care at Willow Pond, Southern Manor, and in private care. She was known for her love of family, cooking, and shopping. Gertrude had a kind soul, but she was also honest and direct when needed. She was deeply devoted to her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She enjoyed shopping at Belk, visiting her sisters in Florida and Tennessee, and traveling to Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. Gertrude never met a stranger and could light up any room. She is survived by her four children: Morris Edward Ward, Shairlon S. Ward-Brinson (Christopher) of Statesboro, GA, Damico Renee Grant of Jackson, GA, and Damian Ewan Grant of Statesboro, GA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Mark Mincey Jr., Carl Antonio Mincey, Ricardo (Ric) Archibald, Mario Davis, DeMarko Ward, Martavius Davis, Diego Prince, Monae’ Roberts, DeAundre Davis, and Caleb Marshall; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Mary Lou Lee of Fort Pierce, FL, and Gladys Easley of Nashville, TN; and her sister-in-law, Valeria Brown of Statesboro, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Geraldine Donaldson and Sarah Thompson; two brothers, Theodore (Brick) McCollum and Lonnie Brown Jr.; and her paternal and maternal grandparents. A special thank-you is extended to her son-in-law, Christopher Brinson, for his care and dedication. Special thanks is also extended to her nieces, JerryAnn Weaver (Bernard) and Wilma Johnson (Kevin), for helping care for our mother and supporting us. A viewing for Ms. Brown, will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Hill's Mortuary, Inc. The funeral service for Ms. Gertrude Brown will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc., with the Rev. S. Maurice Hill, officiating. The burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
