Mrs. Georgenia Marie Whitaker

Statesboro, Ga. Georgenia Marie Lyons-Whitaker was born to Marie & the late Harold Lyons on November 6, 1956 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life June 6, 2011 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Georgenia attended Statesboro High School in Statesboro, GA graduating with the Class of 1974. After graduating, Georgenia pursue higher education at Paine College in Augusta, GA, Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, & Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. She also matriculated at Swainsboro Technical College in Nursing; Swainsboro, GA. Georgenia was a child care provider for nearly 20 years, being the owner of Infant Care, Inc. She was employed at East Georgia Regional Medical Center as a Health Unit Secretary. At an early age, she was baptized and became a member of First African Baptist Church where she participated in the Youth Choir and Adult Choir. She was a member of the Tri- County Choir where she traveled performing with the choir. She later joined Whitesville Full Gospel Worship Center, in Statesboro, GA. Georgenia was a kind, caring, and compassionate person with a calm demeanor. She always gave up her time and effort to help others. She was a loving mother to her children and grandchildren, devoted daughter, and a precious sister to her siblings. Those left go cherish her memories are: a son, Mical Whitaker; two daughters, Ishmela and Melanie Whitaker all of Statesboro, GA; three grandchildren, Messiah Smith, Elijah Whitaker, and Jazzaniah Whitaker all of Statesboro, GA; Her mother, Marie Lyons of Statesboro, GA; one sister, Antoinette (Larry) Ferell of Statesboro, GA; one brother, Carlton Lyons of Atlanta, GA., 2 nephews, 1 niece, 5 aunts, 3uncles, several loving cousins, family, and friends. Family visitation will be held Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary. The funeral services for Mrs. Whitaker will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 11, 2011 at the Whitesville Full Gospel Worship Center with the Bishop Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be held in the New Zion Baptist Church #1 Cemetery in Timmonsville, SC. Mrs. Whitaker will lie in state at the church on the day of service one hour prior to the services for viewing.
