Mrs. Delores Green Wilkey

STATESBORO, GA Retired Educator Mrs. Delores Green Wilkey, age 69, passed away June 8, 2014 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in the presence of her loving husband. The Brunswick, Georgia, native lived most of her life in Statesboro. She was a retired teacher of 37 years, working 1 year in Newton County, 2 years at Julia P. Bryant Elementary, and 34 years at Jenkins County Primary School. Mrs. Wilkey was an active member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Royal Savings Club. She enjoyed serving the Lord at Greater Bethel AME Church in Sylvania, working as an usher and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She also served in the Just Older Youth Ministry, Christians in Action, Drama T.E.A.M., Praise Dance Ministry, Lay Organization, Minister’s Wives, Widows, Spouses and Children Organization, the Savannah District Commission on Health, and the Savannah District Sons of Allen. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Benjamin Green, Sr. and Mary LuDoshia Ross Green. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, the Reverend Benny Wilkey, Statesboro, GA., daughter Lashawnya Wilkey-Harris (Charlie, Jr.) of Powder Springs; Keith Wilkey (Shereka) Statesboro GA., Stephen Andre’ Wilkey of Jacksonville, FLA.; “adopted” children Kenny and Evon Roberts, and Vanessa Pearsall both of Sylvania, GA., Also surviving are her brothers Benjamin Green, Jr. (Luretha) and Cove Verdry Green Muhammed (Lilly). There will be no visitation. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Bethel A.M.E Church 214 Railroad Street, Sylvania, GA 30467, with Presiding Elder Nathaniel Neal Officiating. and the Rev. Stephen Lee as eulogist. Mrs. Wilkey will lie in state on the day of service from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be a viewing after the eulogy. Food and fellowship will follow in the fellowship hall of Greater Bethel AME Sylvania. Interment will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be the ushers of Greater Bethel A.M.E.
