Mr. Darnell Hodges

Register, Georgia On Thursday, May 7, 2026, God called our beloved Darnell Hodges of Register, Georgia, from labor to reward following injuries sustained from an accident. Darnell Hodges was born on April 10, 1958, to the late James Hodges and Wilma Brown. He was educated in the Bulloch County Public School System. Darnell was a hardworking employee who faithfully worked various jobs throughout his life until his retirement. Through the years, he became known for his warm spirit, outgoing personality, and ability to make others smile wherever he went. Darnell had a passion for helping anyone who needed help, along with riding his bicycle throughout the community visiting family members, neighbors, and friends. He loved singing old-school R&B music at the top of his lungs and truly never met a stranger. Darnell had a one-of-a-kind personality and a unique way with words that kept everyone laughing. Some of his favorite sayings included, “Denzel from the countrail” and “Just a lil dab a do.” He also enjoyed watching Westerns and spending time with those he loved most. Darnell was preceded in death by his parents, James Hodges and Wilma Brown; his brothers, Roy Hodges, Daniel Hodges, Donnie Paul Hodges, and Anthony Hodges; one sister, Shirley Ann Carter; and brothers-in-law, Elbert Smith and Jerome Carter. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his sons, Dornell L. Hodges (“Pokie”) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jonathan McElderry of South Carolina; a child he raised as his own, Roderick Gordon of Atlanta, Georgia; his brothers, Willie Hodges and Harold Hodges of Register, Georgia, and Nathaniel Hodges of New Orleans, Louisiana; his sisters, Yvonne Williams, Dorothy (Eugene) Kemp, Lottie Smith of Register, Georgia, and Cathleen Brown of Tampa, Florida; a step sister, Laura Bryant, Register, Georgia; his aunt, Zodie Babcock of Detroit, Michigan; along with a host of beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and other family members. Darnell’s life was a blessing, his love was a beautiful gift, and his memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Though he has departed this earthly life, his spirit will continue to live on through the laughter, love, and cherished memories he leaves behind. A viewing for Mr. Hodges will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. The funeral service for Mr. Darnell Hodges, will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Hadley, Officiating. The Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
