Overseer Levell Jones

Statesboro, Georgia Overseer Levell Jones, passed from this life eternal on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital of Savannah, Georgia. The Bulloch County native was the daughter of the late Gary and Eddie Mae Allen Byrd and was educated in the public school system of Bulloch County. She was a graduate of the William James High School class of 1963. At an early age she was baptized and received Christ at the St. Paul Baptist Church, Register, GA. After moving to New Jersey, she became a devoted member of Newark Gospel Tabernacle in Newark, NJ., where she was ordained as a reverend. The Reverend Levell Byrd Jones attended Newark Gospel Tabernacle Teacher’s Academy, The Reigning Academy and founded The Women of Hope Ministry. The Reverend Jones was a retired unit clerk for the Clara Mass Hospital, Belleville, NJ., Later in life, she and her husband, returned and settled back home in Statesboro, GA. where they united and worked faithfully with New Greater Holy Ground Tabernacle Deliverance Church. While she continued her work for the Lord, Rev. Jones became Pastor of the New Greater Holy Ground Tabernacle Church where served for five years until later being consecrated Overseer in the Lord’s church. There she served as until being called from labor to reward. Overseer Jones leaves honor and cherish her precious memory: her loving husband, Deacon Douglas Jones two sons, Darrell (Jazetta “Jay”) Jones and Michael Jones; five brothers, David (Mattie) Byrd, Calvin Byrd, Reverend Levon (Linda) Byrd, Pastor Eddie (Pastor Linda) Byrd and Connell Byrd; four sisters, Eddie Bea (Winslow) McCullough, Eva Magny, Evangelist Della (Percil) Moye and Apostle Cheristerlyn Brooks; one sister-in-law, Lila (Calvin) Isom; three grandchildren, Darrell Jones,Jr., Briante Jones and Mikeya Jones; one great grandchild, Christopher Jones; two Godchildren, Shawnee Safford and Malachi Brown; one aunt, Ida Wigfall and numerous nephews, nieces other relatives and friends. A memorial service in honor of the life of Overseer Levell Jones will be held Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc. Overseer Jones will lie in state on the day of services from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the services. The funeral services for Overseer Jones will be held noon, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Elm Street Church of God, 29 Elm Street Statesboro, GA. the Rev. Alexander Smith, pastor, Bishop Timothy W. Griffin, presiding and the Apostle Annie West, as eulogist. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
